Do you know what’s going to happen in Beja in April? Haven’t you heard?

The Polytechnic Institute of Beja is organizing a Hungarian Erasmus students encounter between April 14th and April 17th. This encounter is an excellent opportunity to get to know the local culture and habits of a very unique part of Portugal (Alentejo) and to contribute to the exchange between the Portuguese and the Hungarian culture.

This event is part of an initiative organized by the Polytechnic Institute of Beja and the University College in Szolnok, Cultural Encounters 2010: Portugal-Hungary.

The fee for participating in this event is €10,00 and includes accommodation, meals, transport from the train or bus station in Beja to the Polytechnic Institute and a ticket for the concert taking place on Thursday night.

Cultural Encounters





The Hungarian Erasmus Students Encounter took place within the programme of the Cultural Encounters 2010: Portugal – Hungary and gathered in Beja several Erasmus Students, who are doing their Erasmus mobility in several higher education institutions in Portugal, and other that came to our country specifically to join the event.

The Cultural Encounters is an initiative promoted by the Polytechnic Institute of Beja supported by the IPBeja Culture, aimed at contributing to the strengthening of the international dimension of IPBeja by reinforcing cross-cultural cooperation with other countries and cultures.

The first edition of this event took place between the 14th. and the 16th. of April, was dedicated to the Hungarian Culture and was a complete success. A bilateral cooperation agreement was signed between the Polytechnic Institute of Beja (PT) and the Szolnok University College (HU) signalizing the beginning of the efforts regarding joint cooperation projects in several areas of mutual interest.

The Cultural Encounters 2010 exceeded all expectations and left everyone anxious for the next edition.

Guided Tour around the IPBeja Campus

The afternoon of the 15th April will be spent getting to know the IPBeja Campus, its schools and courses. Within the Cultural Encounters 2010: Portugal – Hungary, a guided tour around the campus will take place showing the four schools of the Polytechnic Institute of Beja.

This tour will take the visitors to the School of Health, the School of Education, the School of Agriculture and the School of Technology and Management where several activities are being organized by the students and teachers, with the aim of showing some of the actions developed within the different degree programs.

All registered Erasmus Students are invited to take this tour that starts after lunch, at 2 pm.
The meeting point it at the Common Services Building I. This visit will be accompanied by the students of Tourism.

Fado by Carminho - IPBeja, 15th April

Carminho, the young voice of Fado, will perform in the Polytechnic Institute of Beja the 15th. April. Within the programme of the Cultural Encounters 2010: Portugal – Hungary, the concert will be a great opportunity to get to know the young talent of Portuguese Fado.
Carminho is only 25 years old and it seems like she was born with Fado in her soul. Her first album was released in 2009 and she was immediately pointed out as a great hope and talent of the Portuguese music.
Since then, she’s been travelling all over the country and visits Beja in April for a memorable concert in the Auditorium of the Polytechnic Institute. You can´t miss it!

The academic activities in Beja reopened last 1st of March in a very enthusiastic atmosphere: “The Cultural Disturbances”. The event, promoted by the Students Union of the School of Education, offered a diversified and intense programme, and the students and the local community had the opportunity to participate in several cultural activities such as: concerts, expositions, seminars and workshops.

With more than 4000 participants, The Cultural Disturbances 2010 are the more popular “disturbances” of ever, being know a reference in Beja.

Located in the city centre, the Pax Julia Municipal Theatre is one of the most iconic theaters in the south of Portugal, with modern features generously sized stage at an Auditorium that enables the performance of all types of shows. URBAN CHALLENGE
Challenging way to discover Beja

Next April will be full of challenges and well spent hours. The Sports Office of the Polytechnic Institute of Beja (IPBeja) is promoting a very interesting way of discovering the city of Beja with the “Urban Challenge”, a game with the aim of discovering the capital of Baixo Alentejo, its community, secrets and most interesting places. The event will take place on the 16th of April (14h) and the meeting point is the School of Education, on the IPBeja campus.
The Urban Challenge is organized within the Hungarian Erasmus Students Encounter, taking place between the 14th and 17th of April, with the main goal of welcoming and showing the city to the Erasmus Hungarian Students recently arrived. An excellent opportunity to get to know the Alentejo.
This initiative joins the fun of discovering the cultural, historical and environmental backgrounds of Beja with the opportunity of showing the Hungarian students a good time and adjustment to their new community.
The fun is guarantied as the several teams will walk the streets of Beja, interacting with the inhabitants and discovering the charming Alentejo. You can´t miss it!
